Why India witnessed extreme weather in 88% of days in the last nine months

By Shankar Sharma*

More and more reports about multiple evidences on the fast escalating consequences of global warming/ climate change are appearing in the global media. A recent report from CSE on India, as in the link below, should be of huge concern to our authorities. If 88% of the days in 9 months have witnessed extreme weather, it should be a matter of great concern for our people. The associated concerns can only escalate massively if the present trend of our authorities to persist with BAU scenario continues.
Few associated news articles/reports, as in the news links below, should be of huge relevance to our authorities, if they really care for the welfare of our people, and if they are also wise enough to learn from the experiences from around the world.
Let us hope that the PM's sermons about the true relevance of roof top solar PV systems, solar villages, solar pump sets, additional revenue to our farmers, VISHWA GURU etc will not be just a part of rhetoric slogans.

Incarceration of Prof Saibaba 'revives' the question: What is crime, who is criminal?

By Kunal Pant* In 2016, a Supreme Court Judge asked the state of Maharashtra, “Do you want to extract a pound of flesh?” The statement was directed against the state for contesting the bail plea of Delhi University Professor GN Saibaba. Saibaba was arrested in 2014, a justification for which was to prevent him from committing what the police called “anti-national activities.”
