A two-days International Kashmir Webinar, organized at the Istanbul University, has sought “early, just and durable” resolution to the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) “dispute” in accordance with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, insisting on an “impartial plebiscite” under the auspices of UN.”
Welcoming UN secretary general Antonio Guterres for stating that the Kashmir “dispute” should be settled in accordance with the UN charter and Security Council resolutions, a statement issued after the seminar appreciated President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan for saying that “Turkey is in favour of resolving the Kashmir issue by taking into consideration the expectations of Kashmiri our brothers through dialogue based on UN resolutions.”
Criticizing the Government of India for coming up with the J&K Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure) Rules 2020 aiming at altering the demographic character of Kashmir, at a time when the world's attention is focused on the worst public health crisis, the resolution demanded that the UN officials looking into torture and extrajudicial killings should be be allowed to visit J&K “to ascertain and report” on human rights violations.
Also asking UN secretary general to appoint a special envoy on Kashmir and initiate a process of mediation, it called upon the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to renew to the Government of India its offer of sending its fact-finding and good offices missions to J&K.
