Strongly denying a Times of India report that Indian-origin millionaire Dr Rami Ranger and Tory peer Baroness Verma have "rescinded an invitation to Congress president Rahul Gandhi during his trip to London, scheduled for August 24-25, saying the event has been cancelled, top former Government of India technocrat-NRI Sam Pitroda has termed it "misinformation campaign", adding, "The event at Parliament in London is hosted by Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) in UK and not by any local political party."
Saying that TOI report has been printed "without verification", Pitroda, who is the key organiser of the event, said in a statement, Gandhi's visit to London is on as planned, and he will have "interactions in London at Think Tank, Parliament, London School of Economics and a variety of other institutions with political leaders, businessmen, academicians, students."
"Rahul Gandhi will give a series of talks at large public events, meet political and business leaders and also interact with intellectuals, academicians, students and media", he said in statement, adding, Gandhi will interact "with Indian Journalists' Association in London and address a large public meeting of the IOC on Saturday, August 25."
The TOI report said, the Congress president will be London on August 24 and 25 for meetings with the Indian diaspora, politicians and business leaders, but he will no longer be attending an event in Parliament hosted by the Conservative Friends of India. It added, now Labour MP Keith Vaz, the longest-serving British Indian MP, has sponsored a room elsewhere in Parliament and IOC has taken over running the event.

Not much is known about the human cost of such earnings which swell up the country’s forex reserves quietly. My recent RTI intervention and research of proceedings in Parliament has revealed that between 2012 and mid-2018 more than 24,570 Indian Workers died in these Gulf countries. This works out to an average of more than 10 deaths per day. For every US$ 1 Billion they remitted to India during the same period there were at least 117 deaths of Indian Workers in Gulf ...

Destruction of nature leads to increase in natural disasters: A central tenet of Gandhi's philosophy

He believed that humans should take only what they need from nature, avoiding greed or over-consumption. Therefore, resources must be used sparingly, justly, and with the welfare of others in mind. Gandhi connected lifestyle to simplicity and self-restraint. He warned against unbridled industrialization and dependence on machines. He argued that the Western style of consumption-centric development was fatal for a country like India, as it harms both nature and society. Gandhi was a proponent of 'Swadeshi' (self-sufficiency/local goods) and 'Gram Swaraj' (village self-rule). This approach ensures that the sustainable use of local resources is safe for both the environment and society.
