Urgently require help to the tune of Rs 5 lakh to ensure safety of Anand's fascinating otters

By Jayshreeben Joshi*

I'm going to tell you something truly astonishing. Are you ready?
Picture this: Anand in Gujarat, is a bustling metropolis with a population of over 2,70,000 people. Amidst the usual chaos of a city, something extraordinary has happened: smooth-coated otters have taken up residence in Anand!
These adorable creatures that typically inhabit rivers have surprisingly adapted and flourished in the urban landscape. They have managed to survive in the city's small ponds, and even the underground sewage pipelines. Can you believe otters are swimming through sewage lines? This is truly mind-boggling!
Meet Yashendu Joshi, our devoted doctoral fellow who is leading the Urban Otters project with a mission to uncover the survival tactics, resource utilisation, and impact on local communities of these historically-unseen species. He is also exploring the differences in behaviour and diet between these urban otters and their "wild" counterparts.
Thanks to The Habitats Trust and local partners like Voluntary Nature Conservancy and Nature Help Foundation, Yashendu has made significant strides in his research. However, he urgently requires your help to reach his goal of raising ₹5,00,000 to continue his work and ensure the safety of these fascinating otters. Join the cause and help uncover their secrets while safeguarding their habitat.

To Sonam Wangchuk: 'Will undertake 70 hour solidarity fast in Gujarat'

By Martin Macwan *  Dear Colleague Sonam Wangchuk, I have never met you personally. I wrote a short article at the time of your arrest. Your work correctly introduces you. There is truth in your words. You have embarked on a fast, following the footsteps of Gandhiji. Your intention is to make people think. Your demand is reasonable; I believe that the resignation of a single education minister will not improve the state of education in India. However, the question you have raised is extremely important for the future generation of the marginalized. Education is the key to power, development, and progress, which empowers a citizen.
