Following a video taken by well-known environmentalist Rohit Prajapati taken from Vishala bridge in Ahmedabad, and published in Counterview, showing how untreated effluent is being discharged into Sabarmati river, efforts appear to have begun to “cover-up” such discharge points by allegedly seeking to hide the top spots of discharge points.
Fresh photographs taken by Paryavaran Suraksha Samiti (PSS) activists appears to suggest the Vapi industrial cluster is trying to cover up the effluent discharge point into the Daman Ganga river in South Gujarat.
Revealing this, Prajapati wonders, “Why does that spot needs to be hidden from public view? This action also indicates an ironic struggle between what could be called Gujarat Population Control Board versus Gujarat Pollution Control Board.”
He said, “Earlier we took a revealing video of discharge of effluent, but suddenly next day ‘somebody’ decided to camouflage the effluent discharge point, for best reasons known to them, anybody and everybody, thinking that nobody will know the truth.”
Meanwhile, Prajapati said, “We have informed the concerned authorities that the stretch of the Daman Ganga River along the Vapi industrialcCluster is polluted 24x7 due to untreated effluent.” He added, “Actually, we should not allow at all any discharge of so-called treated effluent. Sewage is dumped into the river stretch where river does not have adequate water (e-flow).”
“Discharging effluents in the river amounts to murdering the River and it is a criminal offence on the part of the concerned industries, authorities and the Gujarat government. Pushing snooze button won't work”, Prajapati underlined.
