A book titled "Global Warming: A Global Problem" authored by Rajnibhai Dave was launched recently in Ahmedabad, accompanied by a seminar on climate change. The event was organized by Paryavaran Mitra and other civil society organizations in Gujarat working on climate change issues.
The book details the severe weather events that have occurred globally, nationally, and locally over the last two decades due to global warming, and how everyone is experiencing the effects of climate change. It also outlines solutions to the problem of global warming and international efforts being made in this regard, as presented by various experts.
The seminar, presided over by former Gujarat Chief Minister Sureshchandra Mehta, saw participation from a large number of representatives from civil society organizations, professors, students, and lawyers.
Mahesh Pandya, Director of Paryavaran Mitra, explained the seminar's objective, advocating for just policies for climate change refugees and those who lose employment due to the implementation of new methods to reduce carbon emissions.
Shwetal Shah, who has worked on climate change for many years, emphasized reducing carbon footprint through changes in lifestyle and economizing. Ms. Rini Dutt of the Vasudha organization shared information about decarbonization efforts in Gujarat and stressed the need to work towards ensuring that renewable energy initiatives do not lead to job losses.
Professor Dr. Rohitbhai Shukla, reviewing the book, emphasized balanced development in the capitalist era. He also expressed concern about the environmental impact of wars fought for expansionism and economic gain.
The author, Rajnibhai, emotionally expressed sorrow for the disadvantaged communities suffering due to the problems caused by the current global warming situation. He stressed that global warming is a global problem that cannot be solved by individual efforts alone, highlighting the need for cooperation from all people, appropriate international policies, and their implementation at the local level.
In his presidential address, Sureshchandra Mehta emphasized the importance of shaping public opinion regarding environmental and global warming issues. He expressed hope that public awareness and local efforts would help alleviate this problem. The entire program was moderated by Dr. Falguni Joshi of Paryavaran Mitra.
