The People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Rajasthan, has taken strong exception to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla's recent tweet following a meeting of the Brahmin Mahasabha in Kota on September 8, 2019 that "Brahmins have always held a high position in society", which is the result of their "sacrifice and penance", adding, this is the reason why the Brahmin community has "always been in the role of a guide ".
PUCL president Kavita Srivastava and general secretary Anant Bhatnagar, in a statement have said that Birla's tweet is "against Article 14 of the Constitution", as it seeks to establish the supremacy of one community over other communities, even as suggesting that a certain caste is in superior to other castes.
