The unprovoked U.S. attack on Venezuela, carried out under the pretext of combating drug cartels and detaining its democratically elected president Nicolás Maduro and his wife, represents a grave escalation of imperial aggression. Such actions are neither unprecedented nor accidental. They reflect a long-standing pattern of violations of international law by the U.S. ruling establishment, driven by geopolitical dominance and the control of natural resources.
This assault on Venezuela is not an isolated event but part of a broader imperial strategy that has repeatedly targeted nations across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. It serves as a warning to all countries that seek independent development paths outside U.S. hegemony. The attack is not merely against one nation-state; it is an assault on the principles of sovereignty, democracy, and peace that underpin any just international order.
From Cuba, Vietnam, and Korea to Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Syria, and Yugoslavia, U.S. military and political interventions have caused widespread devastation, resulting in the loss of countless lives and livelihoods. These interventions—military and non-military alike—have destabilised regions and societies, often under the guise of democracy promotion or security concerns. In reality, they function to preserve global capitalism by extracting resources, suppressing popular sovereignty, and deflecting attention from the systemic crises of the capitalist system itself.
Imperialism thrives on war and perpetual conflict. It weakens democratic institutions, aligns with authoritarian and reactionary forces, and exploits religious and ethnic divisions to maintain control over populations and resources. Today, the aggressive posture of U.S. imperialism risks pushing the world toward wider and more destructive conflicts, undermining global peace while creating a permanent state of instability. In this process, the greatest burden is borne by working people, while military, corporate, and financial elites profit from war and dispossession.
The struggle against imperialism, therefore, is inseparable from the struggle for world peace and democracy. History demonstrates that imperialist domination cannot be defeated without broad-based resistance rooted in the interests of the working masses. Only a united movement of working people and peace-loving forces can challenge imperial power and advance a more democratic and stable global order.
At this critical juncture, the application of a united front strategy against imperialism is imperative. Such a strategy seeks to bring together diverse social and political forces—revolutionary and non-revolutionary alike—around shared, immediate objectives: peace, sovereignty, and resistance to imperial domination. The essence of this approach, discussed by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in The Communist Manifesto, lies in uniting working people around their concrete interests while building long-term solidarity.
The working class remains the principal victim of imperialist wars, suffering disproportionate losses of life, employment, and security. Consequently, resistance to imperialism aligns directly with the fundamental interests of working people everywhere. Historical experiences—from the October Revolution to anti-colonial liberation movements—demonstrate that united front tactics have been central to successful struggles for freedom, peace, and democratic rights.
A contemporary anti-imperialist united front must uphold the right to self-determination, defend national sovereignty over natural resources, and oppose exploitative regimes sustained by imperial power. Internationalism, world peace, and united resistance must form the core pillars of this struggle, reinforcing global solidarity and democratic values.
The defeat of U.S. imperialism is essential for the democratisation of global governance and the promotion of decentralised, peaceful development that prioritises human welfare over corporate profit. If imperial domination continues unchecked—protecting narrow corporate interests through violence and coercion—the future will be marked by deepening inequality, eroded freedoms, and the collapse of democratic aspirations.
Standing with Venezuela today is, ultimately, a stand for global peace and justice. A victory for working people against imperialism anywhere is a victory for humanity everywhere.
