Teesta is an activist who always believed in the rule of law and our Constitution

Statement by trustees* of the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) on the arrest of Teesta Setalvad:

We, the trustees of Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) are dismayed and shocked by the recent FIR lodged against Teesta Setalvad and others as also her consequent arrest.
We have been part of CJP since a long time and have known Teesta even longer. We have complete confidence in her integrity and whole heartedly support the litigation concerning the Gujarat carnage of 2002 including the Zakia Jafri Case. It is totally unfortunate that the Supreme Court ignored her commitment as also the CJP’s support for a just cause and made observations which have led her to arrest.
Teesta is an activist who always believed in the rule of law and our Constitution and has boldly carried out her activities in compliance with these. Even in the past when she was hounded we have stood by her and we continue to do so today. We therefore hope and trust that she will be soon released on bail and the FIR will be withdrawn.
