Network of 20 civil rights bodies to protest off Parliament against spate of arrests on Aug 3

The Campaign against State Repression on Rights Activists, a network of 20 civil rights bodies, has organized a protest programme on August 3 against a what has been called "spate of arrests, threats of arrests and repression on rights activists all over the country", especially in Thoothkudi, Salem, Jharkhand, Bhangor, Saharanpur and Bhima Koregaon.
Human rights defender Henri Tiphagne has said, "Democratic individuals and organisations have come together against the brutal repression by the current government. This repression is visible in the use of draconian laws like UAPA, NSA, AFSPA and others and is meant to intimidate and silence democratic voices."
To be called ‘Kis Kis Ko Qaid Karoge...' it is being organised on August 3 in Parliament Street, Delhi. Justice PB Sawant, Justice Kolse Patil, Prakash Ambedkar, Vira Sathidar, Arundhati Roy, G Haragopal, Anand Teltumbde, Gauhar Raza, Sujato Bhadra, Prof. Jagmohan Singh, Manoranjan Mohanty, Stan Swamy and Uma Chakravarti will be present on the occasion.
Tiphagne said, "Several rights activists, lawyers, academics and leaders from across the country like S Vanchinathan, the advocate who was arrested for fighting for those arrested in Thoothkudi, Rajeev Yadav from Rihai Manch, Vinay Kumar from Bhim Army, Supreme Court Advocate Prashant Bhushan, and others will speak about the democratic struggles across the country and the assault on people's democratic rights."
